Free Reformed Churches of North America

The Free Reformed Churches trace their origin to the Dutch Afscheiding of 1834. Until the 1892 union of these churches with the Dolerende churches, this was the largest group of Dutch Reformed churches outside of the state church. In North America, the Christian Reformed churches came from this group.

After the Union of 1892 which formed the Gereformeerde Kerken in Nederland (GKN), four Christelijke Gereformeerde congregations retained their identity. Most of the following churches were formed by CGNK members who immigrated to North America after World War II.

The FRC began as a denomination when the Clifton, NJ, congregation (now in Pompton Plains) affiliated with the Old Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI, in 1965. The denomination's name was chosen in 1974.

The Free Reformed Churches have a very nice church directory with maps showing where their churches are located.
